Mirroring the popular EdCamp style of professional development, an UnConference is a lightly organized, peer-led, participant-driven event in which attendees propose and facilitate sessions. In other words, you decide what we discuss! Focusing on programmatic, physical, and digital accessibility, this UnConference will involve free-flowing discussions, not presentations of one person’s work or point of view. All are welcome to attend and share their expertise.
This event builds on the success of the earlier UnConferences held in 2018 and 2020 and welcomes accessibility professionals from K-12, higher ed institutions, state agencies, and others interested in the world of accessibility.
Join your colleagues from across the Commonwealth to share ideas, challenges, and solutions as we work towards a more inclusive and accessible experience for all. We hope you will join and be ready to participate!
We will start promptly at 9:00 and end around 4:00. All sessions will be held at the UVA Student Health & Wellness Center, 550 Brandon Avenue, on the Grounds of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.

Accommodations
Accommodations can be requested during the registration process. ASL interpretation will be provided. Please indicate on the registration page if you need this accommodation so we know how many interpreters to schedule. Deadlines
There is a $50 cost to attend the UnConference. Please let us know by May 26 if you will not be able to attend or require accommodations. Our counts for food and appropriate accommodations need to be finalized by that date.
Location
This year’s event will be held in the new UVA Student Health & Wellness Center (SHW). Located at 550 Brandon Avenue, on the Southside of Grounds, SHW is home to the Student Disability Access Center (SDAC) among other departments and centers.
Lunch and snacks will be provided.
Parking
We were able to procure parking on two lots very close to the UnConference site:
- The Student Health & Wellness building on Parking Level P1
- Next door in the Bond Residence Hall on Parking Level B2.
It is essential that you park on only those levels! Any other level you could potentially get ticketed. More detailed parking information is on the conference registration site, on the Parking tab at the top.
Consent
We also want you to be aware that we will be taking pictures during our event. As an attendee, you recognize that your photograph and/or likeness may be used for promotional purposes and grant VHEAP the right to use your image in promotional materials for VHEAP programs and events. If you prefer to opt-out of having your picture or likeness used in this manner by VHEAP, please let us know the day of the event.
